Senior Legal Counsel/Legal Counsel
A Snapshot of Your Day
As a member of the UK&I Legal and Compliance team you will proactively provide commercial legal advice and support to the business on a variety of legal topics arising during sales and project execution. You will suggest innovative ways to deal with contract requirements, negotiations, obligations and exposures to business partners.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Providing analysis and support to the relevant Sales and Procurement teams on tenders, contracts and contract related documents – giving proactive/commercially grounded legal advice
- Applying corporate rules to contract negotiations
- Supporting the business in resolving claims and disputes with suppliers and customers
- Working closely with the business advising on contract interpretation
- Mitigating risk by developing and running training sessions for business partners and the wider Legal & Compliance team
- Advising on internal Siemens Energy’s rules and governance processes affecting the business and supporting the business in compliance with the same
- Co-operating with colleagues internationally with respect to tenders, knowledge sharing and working on global initiatives
- Proactive management of legal risks
- In conjunction with our subject matter experts, advising on a wide range of legal issues e.g. intellectual property, competition law, product liability, health & safety law, economic sanctions, foreign laws, etc
- Embracing technical innovation to improve responsiveness in the face of new markets and evolving business needs
What You Bring
- English law qualified solicitor or barrister with proven post-qualification experience at a multinational company or law firm
- Confident and comfortable in preparing for and leading the negotiation and drafting of high-value commercial/construction/engineering contracts with customers, their in-house legal team or law firms (often large international firms)
- High degree of independence, initiative, and decisiveness, together with an ability to prioritise and deliver projects on time
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) in English – being able to succinctly and clearly explain and discuss complex contractual/legal issues and possible alternative approaches to business partners
- A team player and consensus builder with a good sense of humour, who can work openly and closely with other Legal & Compliance colleagues and business partners in a collaborative way
- Ability to travel domestically/internationally, from time to time, for short periods
- Ability to deal confidently and build strong relationships with business partners at all levels
- A flexible and pragmatic approach, and a proven ability to multi-task
- Resilience and an ability to build relationships within multinational teams
- Highly motivated, analytical, professional, who demonstrates proactive and intercultural skills
About the Team
The UK&I Legal & Compliance team comprises 20+ people and is predominantly based in Manchester, Newcastle, Lincoln, Warwick and Camberley. The department supports the three UK Business Areas: Grid Technologies, Gas Services and Transformation of Industry. The Legal team works closely with the UK&I Compliance team and is responsible for providing support across the UK and Ireland. The team work collaboratively to share knowledge and experience with regular discussions across the team.
The UK&I Legal team operates a cross-Business Area approach, and although the successful candidate will principally advise the Gas Services Business Area, they will be required to work closely with other colleagues of Siemens Energy Legal team to ensure that collaborative cross-Business Area working is promoted. They will also be required to work closely with other colleagues in the UK, Germany and internationally.
The Gas Services Business Area is a leading global supplier of products, systems, solutions and services for the economic, reliable and intelligent generation of electrical power and heat. The portfolio includes both gas and steam turbines/generators, power plant solutions, control systems, etc.
We are looking for an English law qualified solicitor or barrister, with experience of negotiating high-value commercial and/or construction contracts. Experience in intellectual property and/or finance law would be advantageous, but is not essential. The position can be based in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Manchester, Lincoln or Warwick. The successful candidate will be expected to travel to all UK locations on occasion.
