Job Purpose

Are you energized by working in a fast changing and highly complex legal environment? If so, this exciting role could be an ideal opportunity for you.

As a member of the Legal Contracting Network (LCN) and lead of the Asia-based team, you will be accountable for transactional support for, and counselling on, a wide range of activities critical to the development, manufacture and commercialization of GSK’s medicines and vaccines. You will lead a team of lawyers within the LCN who support global Professional Services, R&D, Supply Chain, and Tech contracting, as well as local market contracting in US and Asia. In addition, this role will work closely with the Head of LCN to improve systems and processes related to contracting. Strategic-level thinking is essential, as is exceptional judgment, ability to collaborate with and influence senior stakeholders and other legal colleagues, and a strong work ethic. Must be energized by working in a dynamic environment and in a matrix-fashion to develop solutions to complex business needs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing a team of ~20 lawyers (5 direct reports, 15 indirect reports), overseeing people development, HR and budget processes, to drive efficiency and quality in contracting support to the global business and legal clients.
  • Providing comprehensive legal advice and support on a wide range of transactional matters of higher complexity.
  • Driving a collaborative, energized culture within the LCN, with a focus on leading, inspiring, motivating and developing a team of lawyers across multiple geographies.
  • Proactively making connections between different client groups as needed, including partnering directly with senior clients and the General Counsel and other legal colleagues supporting that business.
  • Developing a data-driven, continuous improvement mindset within the LCN and providing strategic thinking that allows the team to deliver fast, reliable, and consistent contracting support.
  • As required, providing support to the Global Capability Centre leadership to anticipate and proactively manage legal risks facing the company.

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

  • Qualified lawyer with minimum 16 years’ experience in a law firm and/or in-house
  • Relevant experience in commercial contracting globally, people and change management and process improvement.
  • Experience in, or a willingness to learn/adopt, process improvement-based management strategies (e.g., lean six sigma or similar methodologies).
  • Lead in terms of usage of GSK systems and data, with a focus on driving skills and approaches for the future in Legal & Compliance – e.g., technology
  • Bring innovation + a growth mindset around ‘problem solving’ / bringing ‘solutions’ to the business
  • Actively seek to develop relationships within Legal and Compliance team members and actively collaborate at a peer level to identify opportunities
  • Exemplify enterprise leadership through an ability to take an enterprise approach vs. operating in a silo
  • Actively drive diversity and inclusion within teams
  • Establish a network outside of GSK with industry peers that enables external perspective to benefit delivery of GSK strategy
