THIS IS A FULL-TIME POSITION BASED IN WASHINGTON D.C. 

THE ROLE

You will provide the highest quality support to all parts of MPOWER’s business with a particular focus on capital markets and securitization transactions. The ideal candidate will be a pragmatic lawyer who is focused on supporting our rapidly growing company by focusing on structuring transactions and deal execution by focusing with our Capital Markets, Engineering, Originations and Servicing teams. This role is perfect for someone passionate about our mission who excels at navigating complex legal transactions in a global fintech context. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading legal capital market transaction activities from negotiation to diligence, documentation and settlement. 
  • Analyzing and structuring complex capital markets transactions such as warehouse lines, forward flow agreements, whole loan sales, capital raises and securitizations.
  • Handling a portfolio of complex, specialized transactions and legal issues, including serving as an advisor to internal and external stakeholders and managing outside counsel. 
  • Providing expert strategic legal advice to management on issues relating to MPOWER’s organization, ability to conduct business, products, operations, personnel, policies, procedures, corporate and business transactions, and any other general matters that may arise. 
  • Ensuring MPOWER’s compliance with all federal and state regulations applicable to private student lending.
  • Managing external law firms and mentoring junior internal resources.

THE QUALIFICATIONS

  • J.D. degree from an accredited U.S. law school
  • 6+ experience with a reputable law firm and/or financial institution with a focus on leading and managing capital markets transactions
  • Prior experience working in a fast-paced, tech-first environment 
  • Extensive experience in financial services, specifically in consumer lending
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills focused on building trust

A passion for financial inclusion and access to higher education is a must, as well as comfort working with a global team across multiple time zones and locations!

In addition, you should be comfortable working in a fast growth environment, within a small agile team, embracing fast-evolving roles and responsibilities, variable workload, tight deadlines, and a high degree of autonomy.
